- ✓ We do not sell, rent, or trade your data with anyone.

1. Who we are
DownDetector.me is an independent website uptime monitoring platform operated as a personal project. It is not affiliated with Downdetector®, Ookla, LLC, or any monitored service. Contact: support@downdetector.me.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you provide
Discord webhook URLs: If you subscribe to outage alerts on a status page, we store the webhook URL you enter alongside the monitored domain ID. We use this solely to send you automated outage and recovery notifications. We do not use it for any other purpose. You can stop alerts at any time by deleting the webhook in your Discord server settings.
Email (contact form): If you email us via the contact page, we retain your message and email address only to respond to your query. We do not add you to any mailing list.
2.2 Information collected automatically
Our web server logs standard HTTP access data including your IP address, the URL you requested, your browser user agent string, and a timestamp. This data is used for security monitoring, debugging, and abuse prevention. Logs are retained for up to 30 days and are not shared with third parties except as required by law.
2.3 Monitoring probe data
When we monitor a website, our server sends an HTTPS request to that domain. This request comes from our infrastructure, not from you personally. No user-identifiable data is included in monitoring probes.
3. Cookies and local storage
DownDetector.me uses browser localStorage (not cookies) to remember your light/dark theme preference. This data stays in your browser only and is never transmitted to our servers. We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or third-party tracking pixels. The only third-party resources loaded are Google Fonts (for typography) and the Tailwind CDN (for styling) — both of which may log your IP as standard CDN behaviour.
4. How we use your data
- To send Discord outage and recovery alerts you explicitly subscribed to.
- To respond to support or feedback emails you send us.
- To detect and prevent abuse, spam, and security attacks via server logs.
- To improve platform reliability and fix bugs.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.
5. Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data. We do not share data with advertisers. We may disclose data if required by applicable law, court order, or to protect the security of our platform or users.
6. Data retention
- Server logs: Up to 30 days, then deleted.
- Discord webhook URLs: Retained as long as the associated monitor exists. You can request deletion at any time by contacting us.
- Uptime check history: Stored indefinitely in aggregate form (no personal data attached).
- Email correspondence: Retained for up to 12 months then deleted unless ongoing.
7. Your rights
You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you. To exercise these rights, email us at support@downdetector.me with "Privacy Request" in the subject line. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Children's privacy
DownDetector.me is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted data to us, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of DownDetector.me after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
